At between 2200 and 2500 meters above sea level, Addis Ababa is the third highest capital of the world. On Sunday November 26, 2017, you can join the world’s best and 45,000 Ethiopian runners in a 10km race through Ethiopia’s capital city main streets. The famous and great runner Haile Gebre Selassie has been the main mover behind this very exciting event, which has taken place every year since 2001, and has used the race to raise consciousness about the terrible threat posed by AIDS. The date of this year’s international 10km race is Sunday 26th November 2017. More than 30,000 participants took part in the 2016 race and this makes it the biggest race ever on the African continent by participant numbers. The race’s ambassador is Haile Gebre Selassie who has been instrumental in the success of the event managing organization known as Great Ethiopian Run, credited with the birth of mass participation running in Ethiopia. This is Africa’s biggest road race, and along with the elite athletes there is a huge variety of runners, from young kids to pioneers, and there’s a wonderful atmosphere.
