Overview

Simien Mountains is a registered National Park by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. There are over 20 peaks towering 4000m as a result of this Ethiopia is known as the “Roof of Africa”. Our trek includes climbing Ras Dashen the highest peak in Ethiopia at 4260m. We combine this exceptional trek with a journey across a land dotted with rock hewn churches, medieval castles and ancient obelisks reflecting a culture dating back over 3000 years. After visiting the Monasteries scattered over Lake Tana, the Blue Nile Falls and the medieval castles at Gondar, we head into the Simien Mountains for a spectacular trek. The Simien Mountains have been called Africa’s “Green Grand Canyon”. The Simien Mountains of Ethiopia offer superb wilderness trekking with stunning scenery, dramatic cliffs and escarpments and the chance to spot endemic wildlife such as a troop of Gelada Baboon, Walia Ibex and Simien fox and Ethiopia’s many endemic birds and plant life unique to the mountains and the immense beauty of the mountains. Finally, we visit the holy city of Axum and the famous rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, often referred to as the “Eighth wonder of the World”.

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International airport. Overnight Hotel

Day 2: Time to discover the attractions of Addis Ababa. Overnight Hotel

Day 3: After early breakfast; depart north to Bahir Dar. Overnight Hotel

Day 4: Visit the Blue Nile falls plus, island monasteries.  Overnight Hotel

Day 5: Morning leave Bahir Dar and proceed to Gonder. Overnight Hotel

Day 6: After breakfast head to the Simien mountain. Overnight Camping

Day 7: Begin trekking from Sankaber towards Geech. Overnight Camping

Day 8: Hiking to mount Imetgogo, Saha and Kedadit. Overnight Camping

Day 9: After breakfast; continue hiking to Chennek. Overnight Camping

Day 10: Trekking to Ambiquo passing mount Bwahit. Overnight Camping

Day 11: Ascent mount Ras Dashen high up to 4620m. Overnight Camping

Day 12: Morning; keep on hiking towards Arquazeye. Overnight Camping

Day 13: Morning resume trekking towards Mekarebia. Overnight Camping

Day 14: Trekking to Mulit campsite for overnight stay. Overnight Camping

Day 15: To Adiarkay end of the hike; then drive to Axum. Overnight Hotel

Day 16: Full day in Axum visiting the historical attractions. Overnight Hotel

Day 17: Drive to Hawzen visiting Debre Damo monastery. Overnight Hotel

Day 18: Discover the famous rock hewn churches of Tigrai. Overnight Hotel

Day 19: Journey to Lalibela; visiting Yimrehanne Christos. Overnight Hotel

Day 20: Discover the renowned rock churches of Lalibela. Overnight Hotel

Day 21: Daytrip to Asheten and Geneta Mariam churches. Overnight Hotel

Day 22: Fly back to Addis Ababa; in the evening departure, back to home.
